About Me

I have been writing over the year. I mainly do it for fun and ‘writing therapy’. It beats the booze!

I generally write for local community magazines in Kent, although I have started to write also for national women’s magazines. I tend to prefer writing non-fiction, although I like writing fiction just to get my silly juices going. I like writing about arrogant and selfish people, motorists and first class train passengers are my favourites.

I like to write about cycling, road safety, relationships, travel and public transport. I like writing daft verse and poetry, particularly ones that don’t rhymne.

I have published one book ‘Streetvoices’, a book about overheard conversations as I am a fan of oral history.

I have been to one creative course but I gave up after a few weeks because we had the most ridiculous titles to write about, one of them was ‘I feel smoochie’…what a load of tosh that was.  Still, it hasn’t stopped me from wanting to go on another course one day, maybe with a different teacher.

  1. hi silverinkpen,

I just read your short story Impact… very good, though you have reprinted it twice on the page,
and also some of your poetry…best one is Office Poetry…it reminds me of my time at work before the children! I was the slave.

  2. Yes, just realised I printed it twice. How egotisical is that? Now rectified.

Re Impact, some of those events happened to me. It was quite surreal some of it. I thought it was fun doing it.

Yes, office poetry.. had lot of difficult times there and I think I wrote about 30 similar type poems. The main thing I wanted is for the reader to identify with it, not everyone will but some do. A kind of solidarity one poem. One isn’t alone with feeling like that! There are times when I wished I had kids to escape. Could write more too.

  3. hi silverinkpen,

just been reading your stories… you know i think with your style of writing…it reminds me of diary entries…you know not too much detail in showing and description… but more your own views, some political and some humourous… try writing a story from this point of view… you know day one, we did this and she said that and can you believe what happened next…i had to pinch myself!

i think it is brillant that you are doing a creative writing course…you will see many different types of writing styles and learn from them…not just how to but also what you don’t like!

    god bless, ej xxx
